​This very comical yet little-known opera certainly deserves more attention. In this modern interpretation, I focus on a Baroque aesthetic, with the desire to introduce the audience to pure and bold beauty from both a musical and staging perspective. Picture a King who wakes up every morning in a different delusion—yesterday he was Cleopatra, tomorrow Caligula—and this morning, as the drama unfolds, he believes he is LE ROI SOLEIL... a rainbow of surprises, dances, adventures, love stories, murders, and situational humor ensues...but what does this mean for those around him?
